Birstall & Wanlip Round Up |

|
Welcome to the latest Birstall & Wanlip Round Up, a chance for the Local Policing Team covering Birstall and Wanlip (and Broadnook Garden Village) to update residents on what they have been up to, share progress reports on previously highlighted concerns and provide details of upcoming engagements.
SCHOOL & NURSERY ENGAGEMENTS
As residents may or may not be aware, Birstall has 3 Primary Schools and just under half a dozen nurseries, and this year PCSO 6174 Jon Harrison has been keen to engage more comprehensively with these locations. Work began on Thursday the 12th of February when his self, Police Sergeant 4017 John Merola and assisting PCSO 6868 Fiona Quenby-Lacey visited Riverside Academy and provided an input on Peer Pressure and Antisocial Behaviour followed by a Q&A with students for which Sergeant Merola fielded questions related to the Local Policing Team responsibility to the community in amongst questions regarding Police Officer kit!
We were warmly received and will be looking to provide similar inputs having now scheduled to visit Hallam Fields Primary on Monday the 23rd of February and Highcliffe Primary on Thursday March the 12th! Additionally, on Wednesday the 11th of March PCSO Jon (with assistance to be confirmed closer to the date) will paying a marked vehicle visit to the Hunny Hive Nursery off Hallam Fields Road with visits to Rainbows Nursery, Little Gems Nursery & Half Pints Nursery to be confirmed.
ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
There has been a noticeable decrease in reported instances of antisocial behaviour (ASB) up at the Birstall North Services but the Local Policing Team continue to receive reports related to similar nuisance behaviour reported elsewhere in the villages, predominantly in Birstall itself. We continue to work alongside Cedars Academy and relevant agencies to manage these instances in an appropriate restorative and proportionate fashion whilst engaging with local identified suspects on an ad hoc basis.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES & CAR MEETS
There has been a noticeable decrease in reported instances of Residential Burglaries within the rd Riverside Ward of Birstall though we have noticed intermittent reports of Residential Burglaries occurring in the wider village, not of the same concentrated location volume as experienced by the Riverside Ward but still of the same level of seriousness and we continue to work alongside specialist departments and relevant agencies to assist in investigations to help identify suspects and pursue the restorative method.
As regards the car meets that were causing concern to residents in and around the Mere End Industrial site location off the Hallam Fields estate there has also been a noticeable drop off in both reports and occurrences which in the short term is a positive but long term remains something for the Local Policing team to remain vigilant about and we would still encourage residents to report in in the event of further event reprisals related to initial reports and concerns.
